Pokémon Go’s May 2022 Community Day focuses on Alolan Geodude, the rock- and electric-type Pokémon. Alolan Geodude Community Day will feature a heavily increased spawn rate for Alolan Geodude, with increased chances to find Shiny versions of it as well as special moves for its evolution Golem to learn.
Our Pokémon Go Alolan Geodude Community Day guide explains how to find Shiny Alolan Geodude, Alolan Golem’s meta relevance, and how to make the most of your Community Day.
The Community Day event takes place on May 21, 2022 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in your local time.
As usual with all Community Days, you can buy a special Alolan Geodude Community Day ticket for $1 to unlock extra Special Research Tasks that award more Alolan Geodude and candy.
How do I find a Shiny Alolan Geodude?
Community Day events have a heightened Shiny rate for the featured Pokémon, so if you’re playing, you should be able to find several Shiny Alolan Geodude.
If you don’t have time to play all day, you can find a Shiny Alolan Geodude by popping an Incense and tapping each Alolan Geodude that pops up. The Shiny rate on Community Days is approximately 1 in 25, according to The Silph Road’s research, so you should find a Shiny Alolan Geodude quickly.
What Community Day move does Alolan Geodude’s evolution learn?
Evolve Alolan Geodude into Golem on May 21 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. in your local time to get the Fast Attack Rollout.
Based on past years, if you miss the Community Day period, you’ll likely be able to evolve your Alolan Geodude during the December Community Weekend event to get its move. You can also use an Elite TM to teach legacy Community Day-only moves.
How does Alolan Golem do in battle?
Alolan Golem is a fine raid and gym attacker, though outclassed by the dozens of other rock-type options (Tyranitar! Rhyperior! Rampardos!). You should only use it if you are lacking these other strong rock-types. Set it up with Rock Throw and Stone Edge.
In PvP, you may see Alolan Graveler and Golem in Great League, but it’s likely not worth the investment, even with the Community Day move Rollout. If you want to give it a shot, set it up with Volt Switch paired with Wild Charge and Rock Blast.
How do I make the most of Alolan Geodude Community Day?
During the Community Day event period, catch Stardust will be tripled and catch candy will be doubled. This means that you can rake in Stardust by using Star Pieces if you plan on catching a ton of Alolan Geodude. Incense and Lures will last for three hours as well, so you should use those to increase your Alolan Geodude spawns even further.
Notably, it costs zero candy to evolve Graveler to Golem if you trade it with another player first, so if you have an Alolan Graveler with a low IV, you should trade it to a friend to try to get better stats and a free evolution.
If you have the resources to Mega Evolve a Manectric or Ampharos, you’ll also get one extra Alolan Geodude Candy per catch.
