Peter passed away surrounded by the warmth of his family, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication that touched the lives of many. Peter, a beloved husband, shared 51 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Dorothy (nee Short). Their union was a testament to enduring love, mutual support, and the strength that comes from facing life’s challenges hand in hand. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
As a loving father, Peter is remembered for his devotion to his children, the late Peter and Jennifer (Matthew) Veesaert. He embraced the joys of fatherhood and left an indelible mark on the hearts of his family. His role as “Papa” to Matthew, Ryan, and Parker Ann brought immeasurable joy, and his legacy lives on through the love he poured into their lives. Peter was more than a family man; he was a dear brother, a fond uncle, and a special friend to many. His warmth, generosity, and genuine care for others earned him a special place in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Peter’s impact extended beyond the family circle; he was a proud member of the Oak Lawn Raiders S.A.C., contributing to the vitality of his community.
His involvement with the Oak Lawn Community High School Board and his connection with St. Rita Class of 1964 reflected his commitment to education and the nurturing of young minds. Peter’s dedication to community service was a testament to his belief in giving back and making a positive impact on the lives of others. A visitation to celebrate Peter’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thompson Kuenster Funeral Home, located at 5570 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn, IL. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, 7740 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember a life well-lived.
The interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, providing a final resting place for Peter, where his memory will be forever enshrined.
